Welcome to Blogtoberfest Day 23. Today for me is a little bit about homegrown produce. A friend of mine Cyndy recently suggested a remedy for a sore throat (and I must admit it did help), which was to steep some thyme sprigs into a tea. I muddled in a little lemon and honey and it made a beautiful herbal brew. I love being able to go out into our garden to pick what is needed for cooking or tea brewing for that matter !
So today we decided it was time to revamp the vegetable garden and we went to the gardening centre and came home with this awesome box of plant booty
which our cat had to inspect and smell prior to planting (he has a real thing for smelling the herbs and flowers in the garden and I quite often catch him out with a dreamlike stare on his face)
and then it was lovingly planted out by my husband, once he had extended and redug the vege patch. We have planted lots of goodies (well my darling husband did anyway as I am still recovering from a bout of illness) including Basil, Black Tuscan Kale, Broccolini, Bush Cucumber, Capsicum, Cherry Tomatoes, Corriander, Lettuce, Mini Lebanese Eggplant, Mini Lebanese Cucumber, Runner Beans and Snow Peas.
I noticed that there seem to be berries forming on the Raspberry Canes for the first time this year, there are also strawberries and blueberries ripening, we should have some lemons ripe for the picking soon and the garlic is coming along beautifully ! Oh and we seem to have our first white nectarines coming on this year too :) The chilli patch is growing quickly as is the herb garden. I can't wait for the summer harvest.
The spring garden sounds amazing...I am a little jealous of all your herbs as we are putting ours to bed for the coming winter here...might be time to think about a mini green house to keep a few going though.
ReplyDeleteI do see my spinach and lettuce seeds starting to show thru the soil and I know we will enjoy lots of broccoli, collie-flower and cabbage in a couple of months also.
I want a garden too now! At least a herb garden. The drink sounds great, just what i would need right now. Sweet song, but a bit sad.
