Remembrance Day
"Remembrance Day (11 November) marks the anniversary of the armistice which ended the First World War (1914–18). Each year Australians observe one minute silence at 11 am on 11 November, in memory of those who died or suffered in all wars and armed conflicts" source: http://www.awm.gov.au/commemoration/remembrance/
This year marks the 95th anniversary of the armistice on 11 November which ended the First World War.
Albany's Community Artwork Yarn Bombers, the Purly Queens, added a special tribute to the jetty and ANZAC Peace Park this year, by adorning these features in darling knitted poppies.
The label reads:
"This is Remembrance Day Community Artworks.
Lest we Forget.
Thank you for leaving it for others to enjoy.
It will be removed and recycled after a short time.
The Purly Queens.
bringing a little colour to your day one stitch at a time."
Lest we forget.

Afternoon Light
Pottering in the garden over the weekend, I noticed some day lilies had flowered and were bathed in the dappled afternoon light. I love the variations and depth of colour, light and shadow that nature creates.
Strawberry + Coconut Crumble
Every now and then, you stumble upon a recipe that is so simple and so delicious. You could experiment with many variations on this one, but the vanilla bean paste, strawberry and coconut should remain the heroes of this dish. This particular recipe was found here.
Ingredients:2 x 250g punnets strawberries, washed, hulled, halved
1 tsp vanilla bean paste
115g (3/4 cup) plain flour
100g (1/2 cup) caster sugar
100g butter, chilled, chopped
55g (3/4 cup) shredded coconut
Method:
1. Preheat oven to 180°C. Grease a 2L (8-cup) capacity baking dish with butter. Place the strawberries in a large bowl. Add the vanilla bean paste and toss to combine. Spread the strawberry mixture evenly over the base of the prepared dish.
2. Combine flour and caster sugar in a large bowl. Use your fingertips to rub the butter into the flour mixture until mixture resembles coarse breadcrumbs. Stir in the coconut.
3. Spread coconut mixture evenly over the strawberry mixture. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden. Serve with quality vanilla ice-cream or vanilla custard.
I hope you enjoyed reading Remembrance Day, Afternoon Light and Strawberry + Coconut Crumble. See you all on Wednesday for a new Wednesday Wishes blog post xo
