The petrafanella Yarn

Peta Galloway is the head, heart and soul behind knitwear label petrafanella. the label was created after Peta graduated from a three year course in fashion and textile design, and has been featured in Perth Fashion Festival, StyleAID and the Everywoman Expo. The name petrafanella comes from a pet name that my mum used to call me as a little girl. I love the sound of it and the way it rolls off your tongue. As a name for my label it makes me think of cosiness, comfort and playfulness, as well as just the right mix of style and practicality. All petrafanella garments are versatile and are handmade by myself in the creative space I can find between work and motherhood.

I love the way that children dress without rules - layering all of their favourite items in any way that makes them happy. petrafanella garments are designed to be cherished and played with - wrapped, scrunched, pinned, tucked, layered, tied, buttoned, mixed and made your own.

I am completely obsessed with the smell and feel of yarns (especially hand spun and hand-dyed), the shape and feel of buttons and the endless possibility of colour combinations. All of my items are created from original petrafanella patterns and 90% of the pieces are one of a kind. As soon as I start creating something new, i feel full of inspiration and excited about the direction it may go.

Ultimately my goal is for the label to gain success as a cottage industry. It is really important to me to stay involved in all aspects of the creation of petrafanella items.
